Why You Should Visit The Island in Pigeon Forge

Amazing views atop The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel

See Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains from atop this observation wheel. Relax in an enclosed gondola to weather the elements almost 200 ft. up in the air.  The best time, in my opinion, is as the sun sets and paints the sky.

Looking for another great view from atop an observation wheel? We loved the one in St. Louis!

Catch the Fountain Show

The choreographed fountain shows are a sight to watch. Starting everything on the hour every hour lasting 30 minutes, the Island Fountain Show mesmerizes viewers as it dances to music. There’s even rocking chairs surrounding the Fountain for all to relax and enjoy the show.

SkyFly: Soar America

If there’s one thing you have time to do, please make sure to add SkyFly to your list.  The virtual ride takes riders to different iconic destinations around the world but you’ll feel like you are flying! Such a thrilling ride – we have screamed a few times. It was one of our favorite things we did in Pigeon Forge! I absolutely adore the steampunk theme, too.

Activities and Rides for Kids

One of the best reasons to visit The Island is the opportunity to go on all the rides and try the activities. For a day pass ($49.99), kids have unlimited rides for two days. (Yes, two days!) My kids absolutely loved the ropes course. (Make sure to wear closed toed shoes!)   With a total of 14 rides and an arcade, kids can literally spend hours at The Island.

Tip: Get the combo pass and wristbands are available to use for 2 days!

Get Your Drink On

After the kids went on their rides, my husband and I tried moonshine for the first time at Ole Smoky Distillery. For $5 you can try a tasting of 9 different kinds of moonshine. Although they were only quarter shots, the moonshine does sneak up on you. And yes, there’s so many flavors (strawberries and cream, anyone?) that you never even knew possible.

Go Shopping and Grab Food

If you’re hungry, you’ll find plenty of options (more than 20) at The Island. Grab southern style cooking at Paula Deen’s. I’ve also heard wonderful things about Timberwood Grill. For pizza, the Mellow Mushroom is a staple. For a sweet treat, cool off with homemade ice cream at The Island Creamery or grab cookies at Byrd’s Famous Cookies.
