Looking for spring break fun without having to travel too far? Look no further than Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Visiting the area is always our go-to getaway when we need to escape without hearing the words “Are we there yet?” from the kids. But quite honestly we never really explored the area to its fullest. Boy, have we been missing out! Lake Geneva offers so much for families and it is the perfect EASY spring break getaway.
Places to PLAY
Believe in magic again
The Tristan Crist Magic Theatre may be the world’s smallest magic venue with just 50 seats, but it sure packs big fun! We weren’t quite sure to expect as this was our first live magic experience. What a surprise! There was never a dull moment from the moment in the hour-long show. Tristan and his beautiful assistants even held the attention of our 3-year-old for an hour. Definitely no easy feat! We were wowed with classic magic acts like cutting a lady in half and equally amazed at some of the card tricks and other acts. Don’t forget to hang back after the show for a picture with Tristan and a chance for an autograph.
Tip: It’s Lake Geneva’s most popular show and smallest theatre, so book tickets well in advance!
Love horses? A visit to The Dancing Horses Theatre is a must! Located outside Lake Geneva in Delavan, the show was created from one person’s vision and their love for horses. My little horse lover was mesmerized by the pretty “horsies”. The performances are entertaining, and the horses well-trained.
Not only will you find horses, but we were pleasantly surprised to witness acrobatics as well.
The 90-minute show includes an intermission which gives guests the opportunity to take a picture with one of their horses ($10 with a printed photo or $5 with your own camera.) Don’t miss out on petting the horses at the end of the show.
We were surprised to find more than horses on-site. Included in the admission is a fun 30-minute bird show. My boys were totally fascinated by the show, and I must admit I couldn’t help but smile throughout the entire thing. I was really looking forward to seeing one of their birds, Echo the Singing Parrot who has starred on America’s Got Talent, but quite honestly all of them are as cute!
Tip: During the warmer months, there is also a petting zoo. Guests can also add a backstage tour Had we had more time, we would have liked to do this.
While the weather may not be suited for the beach, you can still have a warm water getaway by heading to Moose Mountain Falls at Timber Ridge Lodge at Grand Geneva Resort. Guests of the resort can enjoy the waterpark with over 50,000 square feet of splash-tastic fun. Thrill-seekers will definitely enjoy the two gigantic heated waterslides, but my family prefers lounging around on the lazy river surrounding the waterpark. My three kids were busy splashing away in the Tiny Timbers area with zero-depth entry, little slides, swings, and mushroom fountain.
Spring break doesn’t have to mean it’s all about the kids – take some time out for your too! When it’s time to recharge your batteries, head to one of the many boutique or full service spas in the Lake Geneva area. You have to admit it – there’s nothing like getting a much-deserved massage. Book at the WELL Spa + Salon at Grand Geneva and enjoy a sauna, steam room, and whirlpool afterward. The Avani Spa at The Abbey Resort is also another fabulous option with a sauna, whirlpool, steam room, and an adults-only pool.
Places to EAT
After all this exploring, you know we were ready to get our grub on!
Sprecher’s Restaurant & Pub
111 Center Street, Lake Geneva
On our last visit to Milwaukee we went on a Sprecher’s Factory Tour, so we were already familiar with the delicious sodas and brews. First things first, don’t forget to grab a few of the mascot hats for the kids.
Then chow down on appetizers like cheese curds (yes!) and soft pretzel sticks.
We happened to visit on a Friday, so it could only mean one thing – fish fry Friday! If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Wisconsin, is that they have THE best fish fry. We were not disappointed. Crispy, delicious, and oh-so-good!
Next Door Pub & Pizzeria
411 Interchange N., Lake Geneva
One of our favorite things to do on vacation is order delivery. We NEVER Get deliver so we consider it a treat, but we really didn’t want to leave our awesome accommodations (I’m talking about you, Villas at Grand Geneva!). Last time we visited Lake Geneva, we checked out the reviews and it all kept pointing to Next Door Pub. We ordered and LOVED the pizza. So we were excited to order again!
Seriously, how can you resist this pizza?
You must, MUST, order the giant soft pretzel with three different sauces. O.M.G.
Places to STAY
Villas at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa
7036 Grand Geneva Way, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
Located at Grand Geneva Resort, the newly renovated Villas were our home away from home. We absolutely loved it! It was gorgeous and spacious with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a living room. Plus, it had all the amenities a family could ever ask for — a fully stocked kitchen with full-size appliances, a fireplace, and a laundry! Since we stayed on the Grand Geneva’s property we could also take advantage of their amenities including the waterpark and fitness center. Read all about our fabulous “home away from home” at The Villas.
The Abbey Resort & Spa
269 Fontana Blvd, Fontana-On-Geneva Lake, WI
Located on the other side of Geneva Lake, lies one of our other favorite places to stay when visiting the area – The Abbey Resort & Spa. One of the best things about the resort is the number of family-friendly activities they offer. From watching movies at their small theatre or pool to roasting s’mores at the bonfire or creating crafts, your family will never be bored! Look at all the spring break fun planned.
