Sneak Peak Inside Cherry Tree Inn from the Groundhog Day Movie

Did you know the movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray was filmed in Woodstock, Illinois? In fact, you can even stay at the B&B from the movie! We were given a tour and it’s absolutely amazing.

Cozy Bed and Breakfast

The beautiful Victorian home built in the 1890s is gorgeous outside but is just as beautiful indoors. We checked out the rest of the B&B and it’s just so cozy. There are four well-appointed luxurious rooms located on the second floor. All guests have the DVD of Groundhog Day at their disposal waiting to be watched and also receive a few Groundhog Day souvenirs as well. Every morning those that stay here are treated to a homemade farm-to-table breakfast sourced locally.

Movie Magic at Cherry Tree Inn

While only the exterior scenes were filmed at the Inn and the other B&B movie scenes filmed on a set, the scenes where Phil looks out his window were filmed here. Looks almost identical with the snow on the ground!

If you’re looking for anything Groundhog Day, they have tons of memorabilia from the movie,including the coffee kettle found in the Tiptop Cafe. Looking for souvenirs? They sell some here too.

If you’re looking for a fun thing to do, I’d recommend doing a self-guided Groundhog Day movie walking tour. All the movie spots have plaques to indicate where it took place. The Cherry Tree Inn has one too!Look for the Groundhog Day plaque on the arch as you walk to the front of the home.

Final Thoughts of Cherry Tree Inn

If you can take a tour when offered, I would jump on the chance. Even better, if you can stay here I would absolutely do so! The owners are so friendly and outgoing, and truly know their Groundhog Day facts and tidbits. But even if the movie wasn’t filmed here, this bed and breakfast would be a great place to stay.
