I’ve always loved wandering through gardens, but when there’s a whimsical space just for kids, it makes the experience even more magical for the whole family. On our recent visit to Margie’s Garden near Milwaukee, we discovered playful areas to climb and explore, colorful blooms, musical instruments, and nature-inspired fun around every corner. Tucked inside Boerner Botanical Gardens at Whitnall Park, this enchanting spot is definitely a must-do when visiting Milwaukee.

About Margie’s Children Garden
This whimsical garden honors Margaret “Margie” Kezman, and her family’s nonprofit, Margie’s Smile, made it possible for this special space to exist.
Getting started at Margie’s Garden
We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and had no trouble finding parking (even with a couple weddings happenening.) After checking in at the Visitor Center, we used our reciprocal membership for free admission for two adults – such a nice perk!
Exploring the garden
Wander through
Winding paths led us over bridges and along rocky trails, making every turn an adventure to explore.
Adorable Buildings
Free play is encouraged all throughout the garden, especially with these whimsical little buildings!
Adorable Book stations
One of my favorite touches? The sweet book stations throughout the garden where readers are invited to grab a book and dive into a story. Many stations even have cozy spots to sit and read.
Number and ABC Garden
Kids are encouraged to practice their ABCs and number with these creative ABC and number garden.
Boardwalk and Slide
Boardwalks are always a hit, but this one has an extra surprise – it leads to wind chimes and even a slide!
Add to the Rock Caterpillar
You may have seen rock snakes before, but here, you can contribute to a rock caterpillar. How cute!
Make Music
These colorful, whimsical instruments encourage kids to make music together.
Climb on your favorite bug sculptures
For kids who love to climb, the oversized bug statues are a huge hit. Plus, the soft ground cover makes it parent-approved.
