It’s become apparent that one of our favorite holiday things to do is get in our car and look at holiday lights. One of my favorite places to see holiday lights is at The Ingleside Hotel’s Country Christmas Drive Through Lights. This, paired with a stay at The Ingleside Hotel with attached waterpark, makes for the perfect holiday getaway and despite the pandemic we still had a very merry stay. Read all about our thoughts staying at The Ingleside Hotel and the drive thru lights show. Then enter to win a car pass so you can check it out yourself!
Disclosure: Our family was provided a complimentary stay at The Ingleside Hotel. I was not required to express a particular point of view, and all opinions are my own.
Our Country Christmas Lights Experience:
We arrived around 5:10 p.m. and waited a couple minutes in line. A few minutes later, we presented our tickets and were off to start the show.
Tip: If you’re staying at the hotel, tickets to the light show are only $15. Make sure to purchase at the lobby.
Wisconsin’s largest light show
There’s nothing like experiencing a light show from the comfort of our car. And Country Christmas happens to be one of Wisconsin’s largest light shows (over a million lights on 40 wooded acres!), so you can be sure you’ll be getting your money’s worth. You’ll want to slow down and take in all the lights. It took us about 20-25 minutes to go through sloowly.
One of the differences between this light show and others is that the second half of the drive thru lights show has little villages. Like this cute little barn with Santa’s reindeer. Or super adorable bears in a bakery or fire department.
They saved the best for last. Tunnels! You know, I love my tunnels!
After your drive through, you can park and check out their little village. Our first stop (since no drinks or food are allowed) was the Streets of Bethlehem. Here, they hold a life-size Fontanini nativity display, the exact replica found at the Vatican. It’s a small one-room building so it doesn’t take long to check out.
If you have a train fan like I do, you MUST stop by the Christmas Village. (FREE!) Make sure to stop by the Christmas Village and walk around after your lights show experience. Admission is included with your ticket. Train fans will adore the trains chugging through the huge model display centered in the room. They also have a few animatronics as well.
To stay safe they’ve included a few modifications to the two buildings such as social distancing markers, reduced capacities, facial mask requirement, Plexiglas barriers. We felt totally safe during our visits. After checking everything we out, we couldn’t leave without some of their cute cookies and hot chocolate. We enjoyed those in the comfort of our room.
Waterpark Fun at The Ingleside Hotel
On our first visit to The Ingleside, the kids fell in love with the waterpark. I’m happy to report that the kids enjoyed it the second time around. Their favorites were the ropes, the lazy river, and shooting hoops. Us adults loved the extra large indoor/outdoor hot tub. We could even see the festive lights from the outdoor hot tub.
As far as safety precautions goes, they are limiting the number of people that go into the waterpark. The lifeguards also have masks on.
Tip: Visit first thing when they open to find it less crowded. Sunday mornings are pretty quiet as well. Friday nights were a bit too busy to our liking.
- For a true holiday getaway, I highly recommend pairing the lights show with a stay at The Ingleside Hotel. (Read about our stay here.)
- As a treat, we love getting pizza delivered to our hotel room. On our last visit, we found Park Avenue Pizza Company and loved our pizza. We got the same order, BBQ Chicken pizza and a cheese pizza. Perfect after a day in the watepark!
- Explore the charming Downtown Waukesha area. We spent a couple hours here and had a fun time! More on this later.
- Love Hawaiian food? Although not so close, we made the quick drive to Ono Kine Grindz. Eating the food reminded me so much of Hawaii (sigh). We ordered the Queen which had a little bit of everything and was enough to feed me and the kids. The hubs devoured the Combo platter.
What a fun way to celebrate the holidays, especially if you’re looking to get away!
