Going away to Galena, Illinois was one of the best things we did this winter. One of the highlights of our trip was going on a goat trek with the friendly goats at Hoof It Galena. It was such a unique experience that everyone should try when they are in the area!
Disclosure: A big thanks to Hoof It Galena for hosting our family. I was not required to express a particular point of view. All opinions are my own.
GETTING STARTED AT HOOF IT GALENA
Like most of Galena, the area is quite hilly. Add in a little bit of snow and ice, then the drive up the gravel road became nerve wrecking. Just take it easy and go slow. After making it up safely, we found a spot and checked in with the friendly staff. We were ready to go!
WALK WITH THE GOATS
Unlike our other goat experience, the goats were unleashed and were more than happy to lead us (along with our guides.) And boy, were they so well behaved! For about a mile and a quarter we walked stopping every so often to pet them.My daughter immediately made a connection with Oakley aka the spotted one and never wanted to leave his side.
It was amusing to find out that they were no different than kids – they loved stopping to snack! They munched on twigs and leaves. With so much stopping, I’d say it was a pretty easy hike that even little kids could do.
Enjoy the beauty
Our hike took us through the winding trail surrounded by beautiful tall pine trees. We savored the stillness of the woods.
Take selfies and feed THE GOATS
About halfway through our walk, there was a clearing where we could stop, feed the goats carrots, and take photos. The owners were happy to snap photos for families.
FINAL THOUGHTS ABOUT HOOF IT GALENA
What a fun experience! If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend this goat trek with the entire family.
