Luxurious family glamping at The Mohicans Treehouse in Glenmont, Ohio.

Have you ever wanted to stay in a treehouse? This had been on my bucket list for ages and this past summer we finally crossed it off our list. And what an experience it was! Located in northwest Ohio in the heart of Amish country and near the Mohican State Forest, The Mohicans Treehouse provided a relaxing getaway and a luxurious glamping experience up in the trees with the family.

With 6 treehouses (three of which were designed by the guys from Animal Planet’s Treehouse Masters) and 3 new ones being built, The Mohicans is one of the largest treehouse resorts around. Each treehouse is unique in their own way but all offer a rustic-chic glamping experience. That, combined with the fact that you surrounded in the woods with nothing but nature, provided a most memorable experience.

Disclosure: Our family was provided a complimentary stay at The Mohicans Treehouse. I was not required to express a particular point of view, and all opinions are my own.

On the drive in from Put-in-Bay, Ohio we were faced with heavy rain, we may have gotten lost once or twice, plus the kids (and momma) were pretty hangry.  From the moment we stepped onto the swaying bridge of our treehouse El Castillo, our worries were immediately left behind.

Everything you need

The rustic-industrial two-story treehouse included everything we needed for our family – showers (both indoor and outdoor) with towels, linens, a queen Murphy bed for the kids downstairs, mom and dad’s own room with a king bed upstairs, a hot pot for making quick and easy meals, a microwave for popcorn, and a small coffee pot for mom and dad, and, of course, nature. Plenty of nature.

The second floor was so cozy with its super comfy king size bed set amongst twinkling lights. And don’t get me started on the cool iron chandelier. I could have literally stared at our ceiling the entire night.

This girl didn’t want to leave our comfy king size bed.

My favorite part by far was stepping outside the second floor balcony and just being one with nature. There’s nothing like drinking coffee (or wine) or reading while listening to the singing of birds.

It’s all about the details

The owners of The Mohicans have thought of everything right down to the small details. The large expansive windows that let the sun pour in (or in our case watch the rain come down and hear the pitter patter of the drops) served as a little reminder that we were surrounded by nature.

When nighttime hit and it was time to go to bed, the luxurious blackout curtains did its job. (Maybe a little too well since we couldn’t get up!) These adorable copper owl mugs were my absolute fav. From coffee to “mommy juice” to kids grape juice we all loved using it! It’s the little things, right? Cozy pillows and blankets were everywhere we turned. I can only imagine how fun it would be to cozy up during cooler weather.

The spiral stairs with the railing branches may have been my favorite part of the treehouse.

The Exterior

Not only was the inside of the treehouse super cool, but also outside. A fun surprise was finding a large swing at the base of the cabin. The kids had a blast!

With the rainy weather, we were unable to take advantage of the firepit but my son and I did do a little exploring on the grounds. We found the other treehouses including a few of the new treehouses including an Airstream treehouse! We also found a path from our treehouse to the Grand Barn, a venue perfect for hosting weddings.

Tips to enjoy your stay at The Mohicans Treehouse

  • Grab all your food and necessities before arrving at the treehouse. Trust me, you’ll want to spend as much time as you can at the treehouse. The closest grocery store Stake’s IGA is about 15 minutes away in Loudonville.
  • Towels and linens are provided. Make sure to bring your own personal toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc.)
  • Since you’ll be climbing stairs, it may be a better idea to bring a backpack instead of a suitcase.
  • No internet or wifi. You’ll probably have no cell coverage either.
  • There is no office on-site and therefore no formal check-in. Don’t forget to hang the “occupied” sign across the bridge entrance!
  • If you are staying here, print out directions or bring a map. Cell coverage is spotty if any. The only paved road is Wally Road.
  • While you’re here, enjoy the area. We had so much fun exploring and eating our way through Amish Country. We had tons of fun exploring the many hiking trails at Mohican State Park. (Stay tuned for more fun!) Plenty of other activities for families to enjoy while in the area including ziplining atTree Frog Canopy Tours;  horseback riding, swimming, fishing, or canoeing at Loudonville, the “canoe capital of Ohio.”

Bottom Line:

What a wonderful experience at The Mohicans Treehouse! It’s a great way to reconnect with your loved ones and nature.
