On a recent roadtrip to St. Louis, we made an overnight stop at Effingham, Illinois, a small town in Central Illinois. We were pleasantly surprised at the town’s offerings, and if we ever find ourselves in the area, we will be back!
Reasons why we will be back to Effingham, Illinois:
- A foodie surprise! Firefly Grill, a modern roadhouse, gets rave reviews from publications such as Bon Appetit, Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago Tribune. It is definitely worth a stop! Don’t miss their pond where you can feed fish. Read my review on here.
- Car lovers will love checking out the display of Corvettes at the MY Garage Museum.
- See what all the hype is about at John Boos & Company where they make specialty cutting boards and butcher blocks. Even celebrity chefs such as Emeril and The Cake Boss use butcher blocks from this oldest industry in Effingham. There’s even a discounted section of butcher blocks! A definite must-stop! Given the time restraints, we didn’t get to explore Effingham. Here are places we’ll check out the next time we’re in town:
- Sculpture on the Avenues, 24 works of art showcased in Downtown Effingham, plus shopping at antique shops and boutique shops.
- The Cross at the Crossroads – a huge cross standing at 198 feet tall. Located right by Hwy 57 and 70, a can’t miss!
