Looking for another fun day out with the family? We’ve had a blast exploring the Elgin area (read this super fun itinerary!), and Bartlett was next on my list to explore. You can easily spend a day here! Curious what to do? Here’s what you can do in Bartlett with the family.
All fun-filled days should start with coffee and Good Beans Coffeehouse & Cafe is the place to go. Located at The Shoppes of Banbury Fair, Good Beans is such a cute, cute coffee shop. Ask about their their specialty lattes (of course, I ended with a lavender one). An added plus? Their great selection of baked goods made by someone locally. Not only are they delicious, but they were a great deal ($2 and change for a muffin.) On a warm summer day, it was nice sitting outside on the adorable porch.
Psst. Don’t forget to go to the back to say hello to the bunnies. If you have a train lover this is an awesome spot to sit back and relax on the porch and watch the Metra and/or freight trains chug along.
With coffee in hand, we drove a minute (we so could have walked) to Bartlett Park, the home of the Free to Be Me inclusive playground. What an awesome playground! We arrived around 10 a.m. and in a matter of minutes it quickly filled up. We spent hours here, there is so much to do!
Some highlights include a small sand area, a spinning ropes climb, a wheelchair accessible merry go round, a 3-story play structure, music area, and so much morel There’s even a log cabin on the other side of the park. Plenty of picnic tables and grass if you’d like to have a picnic.
Tip: Feel free to bring chalk to draw on the chalkboard wall. Unfortunately, we only saw one portapotty (by the log cabin.)
Whenever we are in Bartlett, there’s only one place the kids want to eat: 2 Toots Train Whistle Grill. We’ve been going here for years! The food is pretty good (burgers and chili are our staple), it’s clean, and a train brings the food to us. What more could you ask?
Tip: Get a Groupon to save $$
I never noticed but Bartlett has these sculptures located all over town. Really cute!
Play again and splash away
I saw that there was another playground nearby, Leiseberg Park so we stopped by. Although it’s a bit dated the kids still had fun. The real highlight though was the splash area. It was virtually empty because of the cool summer weather, but I think this would be a cute spot to bring the kids!
Get ice cream
In my opinion, all fun days with the kids should end with ice cream. Thank goodness, Cherry on Top Ice Cream Shoppe is located across the street. They serve super premium ice cream from The Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream which you can never go wrong. Lots of choices! Blueberry Cheesecake was a hit!
What did we miss on our family fun day out in Bartlett?
