Looking for a nature escape close to the city? A trip to Emily Oaks Nature is just what you need! My daughter and I are obsessed with fairies, so we just had to visit during their Fairy Hunt. We had a fun time. Not only is there nature to enjoy, but the kids will love the playground on site. A win-win for all!

About Emily Oaks Nature Center

Located in Skokie, Emily Oaks Nature Center is a 13-acre urban oasis consisting of a savanna with oak trees, native wildflowers, oak trees, and two-acre trail.

GETTING STARTED

Head to the urban oasis at Emily Oaks Nature Center in Skokie. Easy trails, pond views, and a playground for kids to play afterward.

Plenty was a cinch with a parking lot. We headed towards the nature center and decided to follow the paved trail to the right.

Enjoy the woods

We followed the paved trail through the woods which is a loop. Along the way, we saw benches and spots to hang out and sit. The trail follows a loop back to the nature center.

Right behind the nature center is another trail that loops around the pond. This was definitely our favorite! There were lots of spots to veer off the trail and sit by the pond.

Playground fun

Right when you drive in, you’ll see a playground, and I’m sure the kids will too. It’s a fun playground for sure! Here you’ll find two play structures – one for toddlers and one for those older. If your kids love sand, they’ll enjoy the small sand pit with digger equipment.

Challenge yourself to visit as many playgrounds as you can. Here are a few you do NOT want to miss.

TIPS TO ENJOY

  • Bathrooms available at Nature Center (open on east side of building)
  • Hike first, then head to the playground as a “reward” or else they’ll never want to leave the playground.
  • Check their schedule for special events like their Gnome Hunt or Fairy Hunt
