In honor of Mother’s Day, I couldn’t think of anything more fitting than honoring local moms. These moms are part of companies and organizations that give back to the community, and are making a difference in their own way. So take a few minutes to get to know them and how they are making the world a little better.
Name: Genesis Emery
Title/Company: Founder of Little Dapper Collection, the most adorable ties ever. Read this post all about it.
Why She Rocks: Each month, The Little Dapper Collection donates a percentage of sales to a charity. In April, they donated 15% of their bow tie sales to March of Dimes.
Mother’s Day Wish:
Genesis: I think the perfect Mother’s Day gift is something that is personalized and can be given as a keepsake or timeless item that moms keep forever and won’t forget. I think that jewelry is always a great gift and can be worn anytime. I also really like keepsake gifts that contain family photos or photos with a mother and her child.
Name: Cheryl “Renee” Galvin

Why She Rocks: Renee always giving back to the community. She created the Teal Crayon Challenge, to go along with her newest book Teal, which encourages people to do acts of kindness each month. So far, she has given the homeless 50 backpacks filled with supplies & food, sent handwritten letters to show appreciation, made and delivered flowers to people who could use a smile. Most recently she has collected over 700 children’s books for Bernie’s Book Bank! This May, she will be giving back to local pet shelters.

Renee: Honestly? Just to be able to sleep in until 8:30 am and have a very low key day snuggling with my family!
Name: Ali Wenzke, Kind Kids Club Director and Mary Roth, Co-founder of The Kindness Connection

Why She Rocks: The Kind Kids Club is an awesome monthly subscription service where community service projects are sent directly to your home. The genius subscription service sends you materials and projects for you and your kids to complete. For instance, our latest project included decorating a trinket box, stuffing a stuffed animal, and making a keychain. When we were done, we just mailed our projects to the recipient charity.
Mother’s Day Wish:
Ali: My ideal Mother’s Day is what my husband and kids do for me every year. They bring me coffee in bed with home-made chocolate-covered strawberries. I get smothered in hugs and kisses and then the kids share their Mother’s Day cards that they made at school. The, after a day at the Chicago Botanic Garden, we curl up on the couch and read together. It’s the perfect day.
Mary: I would wish for a day when everyone is available for the entire day with no other commitments. We would all have brunch on our deck in 80 degree sunshine followed by a relaxing afternoon watching a Cubs win at Wrigley and then dinner at an Evanston restaurant on the way home.
