Getting started at The St. Louis Union Station Hotel
As we pulled into the hotel valet line, the kids were simply awestruck. “Are we staying at a castle?” they questioned. Not quite, but close. After entering through the doors, I went up a flight of stairs and my jaw simply dropped. I was simply mesmerized. I walked right into the Grand Hall, where people used to wait for the trains. Look up. The architecture is just marvelous! I may have gotten lost trying to find the registration desk of the hotel. Just head to the right as you walk in and through the arches.
Note: If you are using a cart, you’ll need to use the tight elevator on your left.
The Grand Hall
My favorite time to visit early in the morning when I basically had the entire Grand Hall to myself. At 65 feet at its tallest point, the archway has fresco and gold leaf detailing and mosaics. It’s quite breathtaking.
It’s also located in the whispering arch. Supposedly, one can whisper and be heard at the opposite end of the gallery. They have a nice long bar along the perimeter of the Hall and they have plenty of seating so you can enjoy light bites and drinks.
A 3D Light Show
As I was waiting to check in, the lights turned off. The next thing you know, the entire Grand Hall was immersed in lights and flowers! It was light show time! Starting at 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. the entire Grand Hall is lit up for a mesmerizing light show. The best thing is that there are a variety of shows played randomly and it’s completely free!
The Rooms
We stayed in a family suite consisting of a King Suite with living room connected to a double queen. The room was bright and modern with train art. The rooms were not only spacious but the beds were extremely comfortable. I couldn’t wait to jump into bed and relax here here every night.

Living room
Fitness Center
Unlike most hotel fitness centers, this one was pretty large and had a lot of equipment to choose from. Plenty of cardio equipment with treadmills, bikes, weights, and more! Working out with the cool art prints was a plus. The train signs were neat too!
Located on the lobby level, just past the Market.
Pool
Unfortunately, their outdoor pool was closed on our visit. Looks fun though as it is close to the lake where they have the fire and light show.
Explore at St. Louis Union Station Hotel
Staying at the St. Louis Union Station gave me the opportunity to simply walk around and explore the historic hotel.
Station Grille
Each morning we enjoyed breakfast from the Station Grille. Normally a breakfast buffet, but during our stay we were served the items. Everything we tried was quite tasty but the clear winners were the fluffy buttermilk pancakes, waffles, and classic All American breakfast.
Tip: If you don’t feel like dining, you can place an order and wait for it and bring to your room. We did this a couple times!
Grand Hall Market
Looking for coffee? The Grand Hall Market boasts a 1920s-themed Starbucks but also has souvenirs that you can purchase (if you collect city Starbucks mugs they have them here!). They also have grab-and-go items like food and drinks too. Cool architecturally details here too.The best part though is the huge model train display right in the middle of the market. Train fans will absolutely go wild. There are seats surrounding the train display so you can keep the kids busy while you enjoy your coffee. Score!
Fun Activities Just Steps Away
One of the best reasons to stay at St. Louis Union Station is that you can literally walk out and enjoy all that Union Station has to offer including activities like the a visit to the Aquarium, The Wheel, mini golf, carousel, and more. They also offer dining and drinks. You can read this guide to all the Union Station fun.
