We recently had a fantastic weekend adventure in Dubuque, Iowa. (Check out all the details here.) One of my most favorite things to do is admire public art, and Dubuque delivered! From street art to art sculptures, you’ll no doubt get your fill for an art-inspired visit.
Street art
The Voices Production street art project can be seen in downtown Dubuque covering historic buildings. Although I didn’t get to see all the murals (20 total so far), I was pretty happy to have seen most of these during our downtown walk. Download the street art map here.
A closer look at Wild Rose. Since it was located on the second floor, it was easiest to take a picture across the street on Main Street in front of Java Joe’s. (You bet I stopped here for coffee.)
My absolute favorite mural, captured with my daughter twirling in front, made for even better memories.
Art on the River
One of the best things about staying at our hotel, Grand Harbor Hotel & Waterpark, was its prime location by the Riverwalk along the Mississippi River. I loved waking up each morning and running along the Riverwalk. And lucky for me, they had their Art on the River pieces displayed for my viewing pleasure. The pieces are specially selected each year to be showcased along the Mississippi Riverwalk. Hurry, the pieces are available to look at until June! Located in front of the piece Grand River Center, Continuum won the Five Flags Sculpture Competition.
One of my favorite pieces, Letting Go, depicts a young lady releasing a dove.
Love this sculpture, Harbinger, against the rising sun.
Foxgloves & Fistacuffs from Chicago artist, Nicole Beck.
Although not technically a sculpture, the Grand River Center is beautiful.
Which is your favorite?
