Can you believe that neither my husband or I had never been to Milwaukee until last month? Not only did we get to experience the Brew City with our two toddlers, but we also brought our pug which truly made it a family affair!
We fell in love with Milwaukee and its people. These were our family’s favorites from our weekend getaway.
- Best hands-on fun for the younger set: Betty Brinn Children’s Museum. One of the highly rated children’s museums in the country. It’s a must for those with kids under 10.
- Favorite temporary exhibit: Â Milwaukee Public Museum‘s Real Pirates Exhibit.
- Our family never really got into pirates, but after see the Real Pirates exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum, we are now officially fans!
- Best worth-the-wait food: Blue’s Egg. Uhm, for a family of 4 wait times are on average 45 minutes. Yikes, I know. But trust me, it’s worth it. Bring snacks for the kiddos, patience for yourselves, and your appetite. There’s a reason why people will wait – it’s delish.
- Best for picky eaters: A visit to the Milwaukee Public Market will solve the problem. Oysters, healthy sandwiches, and juices, Mediterranean food, candy, ice creams, sushi (yes, we ate all of that!) are just a sampling of what you will find.
- Favorite Food: Oh, this is a toughie. We went to many places, and pretty much LOVED everything we ate, BUT I fell in love with the Mac and Cheese Truffle Burger at SPiN Milwaukee. Yes! Now I am craving it as we speak.
- Best excuse to head back to the hotel: We stayed at the fabulous Hilton Milwaukee City Center which is, you guessed it, located in the center of Milwaukee. The location was tops, but what we looked forward to when heading back home was visiting their waterpark. It’s a shame that the hotel will no longer have the waterpark on March 3rd. Nevertheless, great location, wonderful service, and beautiful room. AND it’s even pet-friendly!
Needless to say, Milwaukee is truly a family-friendly destination.

With the winter weather our family didn’t get to experience Milwaukee to its fullest, so we will no doubt be back! Here is our bucket list for the near future:

- Any festival! Milwaukee is not only known as the Brew City, but also the “City of Festivals.” It seems that every weekend during the summer there is a festival happening.
- A Milwaukee Brewers game. Okay, we are Cubby fans, and understand we would be entering enemy territory, BUT have you seen the Stadium? It looks awesome, plus who wouldn’t want to see those sausage races?
- Walk along the Riverwalk
- Walk around the Historic Third Ward
- See the famous bronz Fonz statue!

I’ve only been to Milwaukee once before kids, on a day trip from Chicago last century 🙂 I remember it being a great city to walk around and loved the public market. It sounds like a wonderful trip for your family and good to know it’s very family-friendly. I may just make time to drive up with the kids from Chicago on our next visit.
