We loved our many stops on our road trip from Chicago to Florida, most notably Tallahassee. We had plenty of fun in the short time we had in Florida’s state capital, and could see why people fall in love with Tally.
Here’s a sampling of what we did during our visit and why you’ll be saying #IHeartTally.
Disclosure: A huge thank you to Visit Tallahasee and their partners who graciously hosted our family. All opinions are our own.
Places to Play in Tallahassee:
Tallahassee Museum
The word museum is a bit deceiving – the Tallahassee Museum is more than just a museum. In fact, the majority of the things we saw and did were outdoors. We walked on the trails through animal habitats of animals native to Florida as well as the natural landscape. On the other end of the museum was the 1880s farm with hands-on demonstrations. They had an interesting exhibit on ant homes. While exploring the trails, the kids saw some of their favorite dinosaurs – as sculptures made from recycled car parts.
The real highlight though was having the boys try out Treemendous Adventures, an aerial adventure course and zip line. I was hesitant to do this after the boys were scared of their first real coaster at LEGOLAND, but rest assured this was perfect for an 8 and 6-year-old. They even have different courses to choose from that are a bit more challenging.
Places to EAT
Midtown Caboose
Oh man, there are so many items to choose from here with quirky names like The Mother of Dragons or the Count of Monkey Cristo. The kids love a good meatball sandwich so they split that. My husband, starving as usual, pounded down a couple burgers, while I enjoyed my huge burger, a tropical Maui Wowie. And how could I not pair my burger with a coconut mojito? Fantastic! Everything we had was delicious and very filling.
Lofty Pursuits
Dessert time! After quick research, we had to try the candy shop/ice cream shop, Lofty Pursuits. Gotta love places that make their own ice cream with so many flavors to choose from.
The kids loved getting a free topping when ordering in a cup. After finishing their ice cream, we liked perusing the store where they sell their candy and toys.
Donut Kingdom
Before hitting the road again, we stopped by Donut Kingdom for some treats. Donuts are made fresh in-house daily, and they had plenty of choices. We settled on a strawberry frosted donut (anything pink for my daughter), salted caramel, chocolate, Boston creme, and jelly filled. Everything was oh so good!
Places to STAY
Aloft Tallahassee Downtown
The super hip and trendy (and pet-friendly) Aloft Tallahassee Downtown gets “cool points” from kids after receiving a goodie bag of toys upon check-in, while parents can enjoy libations from their xyz bar.
